About Us

Rooted in Lexington

As a lifelong Lexingtonian, founder Daren Turner saw something most did not in the 42 acres just off Main Street. A place with history. A place with potential. Once home to active tobacco warehouses, the site is now being reshaped into a new kind of district for the city. The water towers stay. The stories stay. What rises around them will belong to Lexington’s next chapter.

From rezoning to restoration, our team has approached every step with the care this place deserves. The Commons is not simply a collection of buildings. It is a long-term vision for a walkable, creative district that future generations will feel proud to experience and call their own.

Our Mission

The Commons is meant to be more than a development. It is a district where life, work, and play overlap naturally. Nature and green space are part of the identity. Local partnerships shape decisions. A sense of belonging guides how the district grows. We are honoring Lexington’s story while building the foundation for its future.

Historic Heart

We are keeping the character that matters. The original water towers remain as landmarks, and the planning around them supports community, walkability, and an authentic Lexington feel while giving the district the flexibility to evolve.

Strong Partnerships

Artists, architects, small business owners, and tradespeople are shaping this district with us. Our partners are Kentuckians who believe in the work and want to help build a place the city can be proud of.

A Mix That Makes Sense

Every component is intentional. Retail, workspaces, entertainment anchors, dining, short-term stays, and outdoor spaces reflect the Lexington we know and love. The Commons is becoming a district where people can gather, create, explore, and stay.

Our Team

Led by Daren Turner, our team is made up of Lexington locals who understand how this city moves and what it values. We live here. We work here. We are building The Commons with the long view in mind so the district can grow and serve Lexington for decades to come.
